PMS, Juice, and Plants

PMS, Juice, and Plants

I’ve been having a terrible day today, on top of it, I had terrible PMS. I woke up this morning and felt fine, but as the day dragged on the pre-period migraine set in; it left me irritable, foggy, craving a hamburger and generally hormonal. My diet these days is a plant-strong diet and I juice for dinner, but still, I needed MORE today. Dr. Esselstyn doesn’t think juicing is a good idea because you’re not getting the fiber. No offense, Dr. E… but juicing is a great way to get rid of PMS, especially if you’re already eating a high fiber plant strong diet.

After making and drinking extra juice today, my symptoms started to go away. My head cleared up, the headache is completely gone now, and the hamburgers that Guy is eating on the Food Channel no longer whisper sweet nothings in my ear. Here’s the deal, as a woman, we’re a lot more complex than these men out there touting this whole plant-strong, juice thing. Sure, it makes you healthier in the long run, but for me, the BEST incentive is the fact that juicing (that concentrated shot of micronutrients) makes my pre-period days much better.

So next time you’re having some nasty PMS, whip up and extra serving or two swiss chard-carrot-pear-cucumber green juice. I promise you’ll feel better by the bottom of the glass.
